For our final Magazine covers, I created six covers. The first three, featuring the “Humming” lips, would represent 3/4 of the first year of our quarterly publication’s covers.
I spent hours with our group figuring out where precisely all of the titles, barcodes, and information ought to go. The trouble was finding both a subtle, clean layout that wasn’t too top heavy and that allowed the eye to travel throughout the page.
Here are the three covers (if WordPress would please oblige):
The other three covers took a different approach to the topic of humming, venturing beyond the action to representations such as sound waves and the hum of guitar strings. It was definitely a challenge to design, but great fun (and reminds me that I should post a tutorial at some point).
I used a minimalist approach, with a very clean cover, and used the black cassette tape to illustrate the image, which would be featured within the magazine.
