Covering Covers

Let’s cover the covers.

For Hum Magazine, my group’s fictional cover, I ran through so many mock up ideas that I lost count.

Truly. The number ranges over 20 9.5″ by 13″ covers.

I began my explorations through using musical elements which could be found in any number of genres. Since the magazine incorporates three per issue, the cover could not lean towards simply one genre.

I experimented with records…

…Illustrations from a variety of genres…

…Creating the logo from photographic elements (which was great fun and deserves a tutorial post of its own)…

…And ultimately, the process of humming.

The name “Hum” stems from an idea that humming is the most basic form of music. Nearly every song can be hummed, and nearly everyone can hum (even if they aren’t musically inclined).

I took the “humming” photos myself (yay for my new Nikon!), and each individual represents a different stage in the “humming process” so to speak, as well as the three different genres.

Peruse as you will. WordPress is being fickle and not letting me adjust the placement of my screenshots.
